This blog is a way to get myself to listen to more music. My goal is to listen to something daily and write some brief comments about it. It could only be a few minutes long or a whole opera but it's important for me to put listening as a high priority. All genres will be included and I would love suggestions from my readers. Here goes!

There's a great new website; http://composerscircle.com/. It daily features one piece by one composer. I just listened to Moon Cycles for Violin, Cello, Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano, and Percussion by Max Grafe, who is the composer for today. Very interesting work; I was engaged throughout. This is a piece I will recommend to newEar, the contemporary chamber ensemble I play with. My one small caveat is that there's an ending a little more than 3/4 the way through where the piece could have stopped happily, but then another section (moon cycle, I guess) is tagged on that, for me, is not quite as interesting. That's a small thing though. This composer is definitely someone to pay attention to. Bravo Mr. Grafe for writing such imaginative and gripping music!
Here's his website.
