Listening to Jake Heggie, a composer that is much in the news recently with his opera Moby Dick being a great success in Dallas. Listening to To Say Before Going to Sleep from the CD Passing By. It's a beautiful song though I'm not totally convinced by his modulations, especially at the end; why not go back to tonic? Maybe I'm being too picky. But.... after listening to Final Monologue from Master Class, the last track on the CD, I think my picky-ness is justified. This is pretty music but not very challenging for the listener; this listener kept wanting more. I'm sure I will listen to more Heggie but I'm not very excited by what I've heard so far. The soprano Joyce DiDonato is the singer; she sings wonderfully. Mr. Heggie accompanies her.
